Harmony

A great online canvas with many fun and unusual drawing tools. Definitely worth trying with a wacom tablet if you have one, although even with just a mouse there is much fun to be had. My favourite tools are definitely 'web' and 'shade' creating weird 3D like shapes, and reacting to other drawn lines. Drawings are also cached in the browser, so if you leave the site the drawing will still be there when you return. One negative point is you can't undo any mistakes, which are quite easily made since the tools react to speed and proximity.

Excellent video mashup where once again the original footage kind of gets the piss taken out of it. The footage is Radiohead's new Lotus Flower from The King of Limbs, worlds apart from Beyonce's music. It's just too easy to make fun of people trying to be deep and artistic these days.

Groupon Advert

This advert has been on the side of YouTube videos for a while now. What is this disgusting shit Groupon? It's as if, and probably is, someone got a B&W photo of a burger and then just applied a colour overlay. Pastel coloured food really is not appealing, even if it is all you can eat. They couldn't even be bothered to find a 5th colour for the cheeky burger in the background "fuck it do another pink one". No doubt this advert had to pass several people before being broadcast, which makes the whole thing ten times worse. Perhaps everyone was colour blind.

Doug Sklenki plays an isolated character which is socially awkward and a bit of an outcast. The videos are filmed with in an amateur style documenting aspects of daily life, usually with depressing results. Although things don't usually go Doug's way he tries to remain an optimist, looking on the brighter side of things, from a somewhat simple perspective.

Martin Kohout has produced no less than 811 video featuring himself watching other videos. No doubt Andrew Keen will be having a field day on this one. Perhaps there's some deeper artistic meaning to this or it's just a complete joke, proving that people really will watch anything. After a quick look around Kohout's website his bio reads:

1984 - born in Prague, Czech Republic
1990 - first knock-out tooth (fall from tricycle to the road)
1993 - two times knock-out tooth (fall when walking on a paving, and slip on a wet foliage while pushing a concrete block up to the hill)
1996 - two times knock-out tooth (fall from a bicycle)
1997 - knock-out tooth by a classmate of dyslexia class during prankish attack by a ping-pong bat
2010 - broke tooth while eating candy

However Kohout does seem to have actually been featured in some art shows and studied at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. What's really going on here? Who knows!

The Last Minecart

Digging holes and killing zombies isn't all that easy when Minecraft meets real life. With armour consisting of boxes, the players make one last attempt to craft their way out of the 28 Days Later styled narrative. Using 3D cameras, game elements are embedded into the footage merging reality with the virtual world, with the creeper hole at the end being particularly visually stunning.

One of the more shit multimedia experiences of my life, yet I stayed on the site until the music stopped, and then replayed. However the site does have some good points on why American is so great, so take note world. When searching 'Official Website of America' google lists the site in 2nd places above whitehouse.gov which is 3rd, really sticking it to the man here. It's also nice to see that the marquee tag is still in use somewhere, even if it does only loop 20 times. I look forward to the day when this site become considered fashionable retro design.

Baptazia - Super Sunday

Drum & Bass synced with church services, worlds apart yet so similar. Ecstasy and god must have a similar compound structure, but how long until this legal high gets banned? I guess everyone will just convert once the ban hammer comes down.

A notable moment in part two is at 2:45 with one man chasing another around and around, before running back to the seats, perhaps this is a relay race or intense game of musical chairs.

Two years since upload and only just reaching the one million views mark, despite being linked on many external sites. Hopefully one day soon this will get the attention it deservers.
